October 4 - November 16, 2019 | Alexander Community Gallery

Kat Leahey is originally from Syracuse, New York, but has long called the High Country home. Since childhood, art has been a substantial part of her life. She studied art throughout the years and continues furthering her education by participating in workshops focusing on life drawing, oil painting, and mixed media collage. She and her husband owned a Handmade in America Art Gallery for several years in Blowing Rock, NC.

Along with being a local artist in the community, Kat volunteers at BRAHM as a docent, leading tours through the museums' exhibitions. Her artwork has been described as passionate, colorful, and whimsical. She has exhibited in several galleries, including juried shows at the Ashe County Arts Center, West Jefferson, NC; Housatonic Community College, Bridgeport, CT; The Convention Center, Columbus, OH; Edgewood Cottage, Blowing Rock, NC; and Watauga Arts Center, Boone, NC. BRAHM is featuring her first solo exhibition in its Alexander Community Gallery this fall.

"Ever since childhood, my passion has been to create. I love watching the spontaneity of people viewing my paintings for the first time. It brings me great joy to see their faces brighten." - Kat Leahey, exhibiting artist
