Internships

Position: Collections and Exhibition Database Management Intern

The Blowing Rock Art & History Museum (BRAHM) seeks Collections Intern to review and update records for the Museum’s permanent collection of over 800 objects and previous exhibitions. The Intern will be responsible for collections and exhibitions documentation, including , tracking preservation priorities. This intern reports to the Exhibitions & Collections Manager and the Executive Director.

BRAHM’s mission is to curate, preserve, educate, and inspire. Rooted in the creative cultures of Appalachia, BRAHM aims to cultivate a community that extends beyond its walls and region, positioning Western North Carolina as a leader in the arts. The 25,000-square-foot Blowing Rock Art & History Museum, located just off Main Street in downtown Blowing Rock, opened its doors on October 1, 2011. Open year-round and free to the public, BRAHM welcomes more than 24,000 visitors annually to experience a dynamic slate of exhibitions and programs. The Museum features over 15 rotating exhibitions each year across multiple galleries, alongside a robust schedule of lectures, workshops, and special events. BRAHM’s permanent collection encompasses more than 600 works of American art, including paintings by Elliott Daingerfield, Maud Gatewood, and Elizabeth Bradford, ceramics by Mark Hewitt, and a growing focus on 20th- and 21st-century artists from North Carolina and the greater Appalachian region. Contemporary craft from across the United States is also a central pillar of the collection. BRAHM extends its impact beyond the Museum walls through its outreach education program, which brings arts-based learning to local schools, daycares, and senior centers.

Reports To: Exhibitions & Collections Manager and the Executive Director.

Stipend: 1500.00 

Timing for the Internship: February 2, 2026 to April 10, 2026 

Required Hours: 120 Contact Hours

Work Location: Combination of in-person and remote

Job Summary

The Intern is responsible for reviewing and implementing standard entries for all works in the collection along with past exhibition files. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, a collaborative and team-oriented mindset, and the ability to thrive in a multi-disciplinary museum environment. This role requires the ability to review and update data, work in a database system, understand the development of standardized entries for each record. Working on multiple records and managing their time to complete as many reviews and update as possible.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating large volumes of data

  • Familiarity with database systems

  • Understanding of collection management systems and best practices

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects while creating and meeting deadlines

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, and the public
