Career Opportunities

Position Title: Operations & Guest Services Coordinator (Part-Time)

Reports to: Business Manager

Location: Blowing Rock Art & History Museum (BRAHM), Blowing Rock, NC

Position Summary:

The Operations & Guest Services Coordinator supports the Business Manager in the smooth and efficient daily operation of the Museum. This position plays a key role in facility management, housekeeping and laundry, retail purchasing and inventory, event coordination, and rental operations. The Coordinator also provides basic accounting support and uses a range of technology platforms to manage Museum operations. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, resourceful, and service-oriented, with strong administrative and interpersonal skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Business Manager with day-to-day Museum operations, including facility maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry.

  • Receive, process, and track inventory for the Museum Shop; monitor and record retail sales using Square.

  • Work with the Business Manager and Director on facility operations and maintenance.

  • Coordinate and manage facility rentals, including responding to inquiries, scheduling, preparing rental contracts, and ensuring smooth event execution.

  • Support efforts to grow event revenue from community and private rentals.

  • Assist with setup and breakdown for Museum programs and special events; serve as on-site contact for clients and vendors.

  • Perform basic accounting tasks, including expense tracking and financial data entry.

  • Maintain and update Museum records using the Museum’s database system (training provided).

  • Utilize Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), and Square for daily operational, financial, and administrative tasks.

  • Provide outstanding guest service to all Museum visitors, event clients, and vendors.

  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure seamless operations and a positive visitor experience.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Business Manager and Museum leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Commercial cleaning experience.

  • Understanding of building maintenance and management of contractors.

  • Ability to perform maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs and monitoring building systems.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail) and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel.

  • Experience with point-of-sale and inventory management systems; Square experience preferred.

  • Strong comfort with learning and using new software, including the Museum’s database system (training provided).

  • Previous experience in facility rentals, operations, accounting, retail management, hospitality, or event coordination preferred.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to exceptional guest service and professional presentation.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs and assist with event setup and facility needs as required.

Schedule & Compensation:

This is a part-time position with flexible hours that include weekdays, weekends, and evenings, depending on Museum programming and event schedules. Estimated at 25 hours per week. Starting wage is $18 per hour. This position does not include benefits but offers a varied and engaging work environment ideal for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork, and community engagement.

Internships

Position: Education Center Intern

The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum is a non-profit museum (on the corner of Ginny Stevens Lane and Main Street) in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, a small village nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its mission is to promote visual arts and history and to celebrate the rich heritage of the mountains.

The Education Center Intern is exposed to all facets of hands-on public program development and promotion for a Museum or not-for-profit organization.  During the 120 hour period, the intern will:

  1. Be Responsible for public youth and/or adult educational programs including:

    • Program Development

    • Management of an institutional calendar

    • Marketing

    • Set-up

    • Execution of program(s)

    • Clean-up

    • Client follow-up surveys

The ideal candidate will have exceptional verbal communication skills, strong written communication, experience working with adults and children, flexible schedule, demonstrated interest in museums, art education, or not-for-profit institutions. This position may require some evening or weekend work, those dates will be set before the beginning of the internship. 

Interns are expected to be available by June 1, 2025, with work completed by August 15, 2025.
