Horace, the renowned lyric poet of ancient Rome, famously wrote in Ars Poetica that “as is painting, so is poetry.” Though distinct in their methods, both art forms strive to evoke similar emotions and insights. Horace argued that when experienced together, their power to transform is even greater. This idea continues to drive the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum's (BRAHM) annual project.

With that in mind BRAHM is excited to present this year’s ARS POETICA III, a juried exhibition showcasing the collaborative potential between poetry and visual art. This year we have decided to add a theme to the exhibition. In keeping with our goal to foster growth in the community, we are asking all participating artists to submit works centered around healing and growth, both as individuals and a larger community.

The catalog below is a digital presentation of all the pairings in the exhibition. Please enjoy viewing them there if you are unable to visit the exhibition in person.

Please consider taking the time to vote for your favorite pairing of visual art and poetry. The winner of the people’s choice will receive a prize. Vote by clicking the button to the right!
