About the Workshop

The idea of painting with watercolor is very alluring to those who love the qualities of the medium: freshness, spontaneity, and beautiful transparent washes to mention a few. The idea often is accompanied however, with a fairly big intimidation factor and anxiety due to the medium’s reputation of being challenging and difficult to master. Wes promises to provide a low stress introduction to watercolor painting that will cover the very basics of materials and supplies needed, how to set up a palette, and most importantly some key concepts to learn and practice that can reduce many of the initial struggles.

Information Covered will include:

  • Setting yourself up with the basics: palettes, brushes, pigments, and helpful accessories

  • Pigment qualities and key concepts of color choices and mixing

  • Understanding the pigment and wash control “Compass Model” that will get you on your way to making a painting work!

  • The day will include a demonstration by Wes, and an initial guided “hands-on” experience that will give you an immediate feeling for the nature of the medium, and what is possible with a commitment to the learning curve.

While moving forward will definitely involve some practice and patience, this session can provide you with a great foundation to understand how to walk this pathway with greater confidence. With this foundational experience, participants find that they can enjoy and even embrace the challenges of watercolor, instead of being defeated by them. You can do it!

Limited seating available. An 80% refund will be issued if the participant cancels two weeks prior to the event. For cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the event, BRAHM will issue a refund IF the museum is able to fill the vacated spot.
