Studio Saturdays: Black History Month edition

Youth aged 12-18 are invited to join us at BRAHM every second Saturday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm this winter and spring for directed studio time inspired by famous artists. Explore new styles and processes for making art. Meet new friends and express your creative side. Free for the community. Reservations encouraged.

Alma Woodsey Thomas was an African-American artist and teacher who lived and worked in Washington, D.C., and is now recognized as a major American painter of the 20th century.  Thomas became an important role model for women, African Americans, and older artists.Thomas is best known for her colorful abstract paintings featuring swirling compositions of small brushstrokes. Celebrate Black History Month and Alma Woodsey Thomas’ birth month by creating collages and paintings inspired by her work.
