Considerations: An Installation by Sarah Vaughn, Installation view, Photo: Josh White

Sarah Vaughn’s Considerations exhibition explores the nature of stones, the memories they keep, and the stories they tell. To further celebrate this exhibition, join Appalachian State University Geology Professor Lauren Waterworth as she tells the story of a stone found on the slopes of Grandfather Mountain that records the epic history of an ancient river that flowed through time between two great mountain ranges.

About the Speaker:

Raised in Western North Carolina, Lauren Waterworth channels her love for the natural world into her art. Lauren’s paintings are colorful, impressionistic, and a little bit dreamy.

Lauren graduated from the Appalachian State Geology Department in 2001. Lauren has a Master's Degree from Texas A&M University, where she studied active mountain-building processes in Taiwan, and a Juris Doctorate from Tulane University Law School with a Certificate in Environmental Law. She focuses on Clean Water Act enforcement issues in the Southern Appalachians. Lauren joined the faculty of Appalachian State University in January of 2011.
