Transitive, 1959, oil on masonite. Gift of Patricia Cade, BRAHM Permanent Collection, 2015.05.02

Join BRAHM Curator of Exhibitions & Collections, Ian Gabriel Wilson, for a discussion of Abstract Expressionism—the mid-20th century movement in American art—and its foundational position in the national canon. The lecture will include a general introduction to AbEx as a preamble for contemporary American painting at large with a special emphasis on the movement’s importance in the development of exhibited artist Ida Kohlmeyer's paintings and sculptures.

This will be an abbreviated lecture to allow for discussion inside the exhibition afterwards.
