Staff Highlight: Seth Perry, Front Desk Manager

Seth joined the BRAHM team in November of 2021. He is our newest staff member as of this writing and we are thrilled to have him! As our Front Desk Manager, Seth is the first face one sees upon entering the museum and the last one seen upon exiting. In this role, he orients visitors to BRAHM’s exhibits, sells gift shop items, signs up new and renewing members, and answers countless questions over the phone and in person. An artist himself, he loves to give information about works on display in the art exhibits at BRAHM.

Seth is currently a BFA student at Appalachian State University, majoring in studio art with a focus in fibers and mixed media sculpture. He learned about BRAHM from his professor and dear friend of the museum, Jody Servon, but his interest in visual art stretches back to high school when they shadowed the assistant director of campus galleries at Wake Forest University. Seth also learned to paint exclusively in oils as a high school student, which is a rare experience for students who tend to use (or be given) only acrylic paints.

Seth grew up in Greeley, Colorado, and moved to Winston-Salem as a teenager. They have also lived in Denver, San Antonio, and Myrtle Beach. Now a Southerner, he is a vegetarian who loves to eat Southern food. Besides eating and relaxing, Seth also loves to hike (especially the Profile Trail at Grandfather Mountain) and enjoys mountain biking at Lake Powhatan, just down the mountain chain in Asheville, North Carolina. Though he has no pets at the moment, he one day hopes to adopt an elderly cat who enjoys relaxing as much as he does.

At BRAHM, Seth really likes the exhibit of native plants made of glass by artist Ronnie Hughes. “As a hiker, this exhibit has allowed me to put names with some of the flowers I see all the time.” In BRAHM’s gift shop, he recommends the fun toys and beautiful rugs by artist Susan Sharpe.

Seth will graduate from App State in December. Congratulations and welcome to the BRAHM team!
