Terra Ludis: Play Ground | Meet Melissa Weddell

Melissa Weddell, Ph.D, is the Department Chair of Appalachian State University ‘s Recreation Management and Physical Education Department. She is an avid mountain biker and conservationist. We asked her opinion on the value of outdoor recreation spaces.

"I really believe our outdoor recreation and public spaces are the heart of our democracy – anyone can come enjoy it. Solitude and the woods are good for your soul. Every trail encounter you have is a way to remove those barriers and stereotypes and to be nice and to be like “We’re all here to enjoy the same things, and it doesn’t really matter what gender you are, or what background you’re from, we all share the love of two wheels."
