Inside the Artists Studio: Adam Atkinson & Everett Hoffman

Adam Atkinson and Everett Hoffman are resident artists at the Penland School of Craft. Their artwork is currently on view in BRAHM's exhibition, Drawn To Detail: Metalsmiths of North Carolina. This interview was conducted by BRAHM programs director Willard Watson in Adam & Everett's studio space at Penland School of Crafts.

Adam Atkinson received a MFA in Metal Design at East Carolina University in 2019, and a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Practices at Boise State University in 2013 where he studied sculpture, metals, and painting. Atkinson’s work documents relationships between gender and the body using adornment and small scale sculpture as formats for exploration. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.

Everett Hoffman was born and raised in Southwest Idaho surrounded by suburbs and farming towns. He graduated with a BFA in Metals from Boise State University in 2013, and an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018. He currently lives in Gatlinburg, TN where he is of the 2018-2019 artist in residence at Arrowmont school of Art and Craft. His current body of work examines everyday material debris reconstructed within the complex narratives of identity, gender, and sexual desire. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally including the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Soil Gallery in Seattle, and the Benaki Museum in Athens Greece.
