Art with Kayla at WWC
Join Kayla Reische on the third Monday of each month at noon for art class. Explore a variety of topics and subjects in a relaxed atmosphere. All skill levels are welcome. Registration is not required. This class is held at the Western Watauga Community Center in Sugar Grove.
Make Your Mark Printmaking Camp (July 22-24, 2025)
In this fun camp for Kids ages 8-15, students will explore various aspects of printmaking and mark-making. They will create their own stamps and experiment with techniques such as styrofoam printing, potato prints, collagraphs, cyanotype, and Gelli printing using a variety of materials. All materials are provided.
Students should come to BRAHM prepared in art-friendly clothing, with a packed lunch and filled water bottle. Please wear secure footwear, as we may play movement games during our mid-day break.

Art Explorers Session 2 (July 29-31)
This art camp for ages 7-12 explores using multiple materials for creation. Participants of this camp will use various drawing materials such as paint, paper, clay, and other mediums to create 2 and 3-D works. Campers will learn artistic techniques that are unique to each medium, as well as learn how artists use different mediums to help them accomplish their artistic goals.

Life Cycle of a River Rock
Sarah Vaughn’s Considerations exhibition explores the nature of stones, the memories they keep, and the stories they tell. To further celebrate this exhibition, join Appalachian State University Geology Professor Lauren Waterworth as she tells the story of a stone found on the slopes of Grandfather Mountain that records the epic history of an ancient river that flowed through time between two great mountain ranges.

Often considered the moody counterpoint to Impressionism’s vibrant and light-filled canvases, Tonalism offered a harmonious space for respite and reflection in a rapidly changing world.

“More Magnificent than Imagination”: Camp Catawba as Muse
Places can be inspiring, and Western North Carolina boasts quite a few. Nestled in the mountains in Blowing Rock, Camp Catawba, a summer camp operating between 1945 and 1970, inspired its founder, Vera Lachmann, and her partner, Tui St. George Tucker, in a variety of ways. A poem Lachmann wrote for Tucker expresses that for them, Catawba is “more magnificent than imagination.”

Listening Day
On September 27, 2024 Hurricane Helene rocked the High Country. In the days and weeks that followed the
BRAHM is hosting a community listening day for people to share their experiences of Hurricane Helene and its aftermath. There will be four recording stations set up in the museum with opportunities to share your stories from 10 am - 1 pm. Segments of the interviews will be broadcasted on WFDD radio station in the two weeks following the event.

Sound and Sight: A Collaboration Jack Boul/Roger Trefousse
The premier of a suite of modern classical music inspired by Jack Boul’s paintings will be held at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum on September 27 at 4 pm. After the concert, visitors are invited to tour the exhibition of Boul’s paintings. This inaugural concert will be performed by the Faculty Ensemble of the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University and is open to the public.

It's Not "If," It's "When": Lessons from Helene and Watauga's Historic Floods
In 2018, Dr. Eric Plaag gave a talk at BRAHM about the August 1940 Flood, highlighting that it was only a matter of time before another similar event devastated Watauga County. Just six years later, Hurricane Helene crippled Western North Carolina, including Boone and Watauga County, causing millions of dollars in local damage and displacing hundreds of local families.

Exploring Tonalist Painting with Kyle Buckland
Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Tonalism, taught by nationally acclaimed landscape painter Kyle Buckland. This workshop will guide you through the core principles of this evocative style, including limited palettes, close values, and creating a sense of mood and atmosphere through subtle color variations.
The mornings will feature a live demonstration, followed by an afternoon of dedicated painting time with individual guidance from Kyle. All skill levels are welcome. Participants choose from acrylic or oil painting, the supply list follows. This is a great opportunity to learn about the history of Tonalism and develop your artistic skills.

Join Kayla Reische on the last Wednesday of each month at 10 AM for art class. Explore a variety of topics and subjects in a relaxed atmosphere. All skill levels are welcome. Registration is not required. This class is held at the Lois E Harrill Center in Boone.

Afternoon Art: June 24
Tuesdays, 3:30 - 4:30 pm | Ideal for 6-12 year olds: Creative art-making activities highlighting a variety of artists and methods.

Art Explorers Session 1 (June 24-26)
This art camp for ages 7-12 explores using multiple materials for creation. Participants of this camp will use various drawing materials such as paint, paper, clay, and other mediums to create 2 and 3-D works. Campers will learn artistic techniques that are unique to each medium, as well as learn how artists use different mediums to help them accomplish their artistic goals.
Students should come to BRAHM prepared in art-friendly clothing, with a packed lunch and filled water bottle. Please wear secure footwear, as we may play movement games during our mid-day break.
$115 General Public / $95 BRAHM members / $75 per additional sibling

Join us for an in-depth look at one of BRAHM’s most ambitious exhibitions yet: “Daingerfield and the Tonalist Instinct.” We feature extraordinary works by Blowing Rock’s own Elliott Daingerfield, including some from private collections that have rarely been seen publicly, as well as works borrowed from major museums.

Cork & Canvas 6/19
Learn to paint in a relaxed atmosphere, inspired by Farmhouse in a Wheat Field. Each participant goes home with a finished work of art. All materials, including canvasses, acrylic paint, brushes, and aprons, are provided. Our trained instructor will lead you step-by-step.
Wine, beer, and light snacks are complimentary.
