In case you missed it! On February 18th, 2023 seventh-generation ballad singer, storyteller, and musician, Sheila Kay Adams performed pieces from across her repertoire spanning oceans and generations. This event was fun and engaging for the whole family.

Deciphering Doc Watson
In case you missed it! On March 9th, 2023 Willard Watson III, Director of Programs & Outreach here at BRAHM, gave a talk exploring Doc’s life, influences, style, and look at his legacy. This lecture was a mixture of music, film, family stories, and ethnomusicology.
Grandfather Mountain’s Slithery Friends
In case you missed it! Cassie Petrilla from Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation gave a talk at BRAHM, sharing information on these long, legless reptiles. Audience members learned about the critical role of snakes in the environment and even gave them each a pet!

An Evening with NC Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green
In case you missed it, we were fortunate to host North Carolina Poet Laureate, Jaki Shelton Green on September 22, 2022. This recording from the event was the first public reading of her poem, "Love notes for the Jagged Path." BRAHM commissioned Jaki Shelton Green to write the piece to serve as the invocation for the exhibition, Jagged Path: the African Diaspora in Western North Carolina in Craft, Music, and Dance.
Jim McDowell Living History Performance: "Dave: I Am A Slave"
In case you missed it! Enjoy this recording of Jim McDowell's living history performance, "Dave I am a Slave." In this one-man show, Jim assumes the role of David Drake, an enslaved potter who lived in Edgefield, South Carolina in the mid-1800s. He tells us about Dave's life and skill as a potter. Then in the second half of the performance, Jim tells the audience about his life and development as an artist.
Cynthia Bringle: Life behind the wheel
"Making work has been my life and joy for over 50 years. When a kiln comes out, I spend time looking to figure out what will come next. Each pot is a one off, be it a vase or mug. My pleasure is in the making and I hope yours in the use.”
